Vault Questions

As we announced on Wednesday, the COMC Vault is now open for business!  Because the Vault is brand new, some questions have come up, so we wanted to take a moment to address them.

The Vault is supposed to be for high-end, so why do I see items listed at $40.00?

The $40 is the cut-off point that allows us to offer a lower consignment fee to our sellers. While The Vault is generally geared towards items valued at $100+, we want to give our sellers the opportunity to try it out with some of their mid-range items and take advantage of the lower fee structure.

In many cases, items are offered at a lower price on The Vault than on COMC because of the reduced commission fees. If you wish to search for higher-priced cards only, use the dropdown menu on the left-hand side of the Search Results page to display items in various price ranges.

The Vault seems like a separate site from COMC. Why doesn’t one site direct users to the other for more search results?

At the moment, COMC and The Vault are being treated as two separate websites.  As we wanted to release The Vault in time for The National, we haven’t implemented all of the features that we have planned for the site. We will be adding many, many more features in the coming weeks and your feedback helps us prioritize which features we do next.

Can Vault Credit be used on COMC.com? *or* Can COMC Credit be used on The Vault?

When an item sells on The Vault, the seller receives a deposit into their Vault account for the sale price less fees. That balance can be used toward items in The Vault or cashed out in full. We are currently considering ways to support the transfer of Vault Credit to COMC, and vice versa.

If I run a COMC Sale Promotion will that affect the Vault eligibility of my items?

No, these items will remain Vault Eligible. COMC Sale Promotions only affect the price of the item on COMC and do not affect Vault list prices. Sale prices are momentarily only viewable on COMC.com.

Thanks for the great questions and suggestions that you’ve sent us so far. Please continue to share your thoughts and questions regarding the Vault, or any of our other services here on our blog, and be sure to check us out on FacebookTwitter, and Google+.

The Vault has Launched at The National!

Hello folks, and welcome from the 34th Annual National Sports Collectors Convention in Rosemont, Illinois!  As many of you know, the first day of the National has coincided with the official launch of The Vault.  Not only have items begun to sell on The Vault online, they have begun selling offline at the show via our showroom cases!

As a reminder, there are several reasons this new service is an amazing opportunity to display and sell high end items:

  • Only 10% commission on all items sold
  • High quality 36x zoom scans of front and back of each item
  • Items may be showcased at some of the most prestigious shows in the country
  • Additional payment options (e.g. wire transfer)
  • It is the safe and easy way to buy and sell high end collectibles

Within the first hour of the launch, 10 cards had already sold, and sales continued throughout the afternoon.  If you haven’t had an opportunity to see the Vault yet, take a look at vault.comc.com!

COMCs First Day at the National: The Recap

We spent a majority of our day getting the booth up and running and all your Vault items set into the cases.  With thousands of vendors preparing in much the same fashion, it was truly remarkable sight.

For those of you who have not been to the Donald E. Stephen’s Convention Center, it is massive.  Measuring in at 840,000 square ft. of convention space, well over half of that is being used over the course of the next few days.  And every last foot of space is devoted to cards from every sport, and of every value imaginable.

Here is a behind the scenes look at what the Convention looks like before the doors open to even the VIP pass holders.

We only had a half day on Wednesday to show things off, which means the best is yet to come, and Booth 850 is ready for the storm!  We look forward to seeing many more of you at the show and be sure to keep up with us as the National heats up on FacebookTwitter, and Google+.

Sneak Peek: Vault Imaging

The Vault is going to be a whole new way to buy and sell high end items online.  It is going to bring with it 10% cash outs, sale of these items at major shows, and a brand new set of high resolution scans!  Today, we wanted to take a moment to show you a before and after shot of one of the items that will be available for sale very soon on The Vault.

Here is a scan of this item as it appeared on COMC:

The original 4x Zoom

The pictures of the individual items have been a hallmark of the service COMC provides since we started the site.  But now, we are able to provide an even clearer view of the items placed into The Vault.  Here is the same item after having been rescanned and placed in The Vault:

These scans are more pristine and clearer than any that have been on our site before.  Better yet, once the new Super Zoom function has been released on The Vault, it will be easy to view every detail of the card with a 36x zoom!

The new 36x “Superzoom” – click on the card to see the difference!

So tell us, what you think of our new imaging and about your plans for The Vault in the comments below.  Be sure to join us on our FacebookTwitter, and Google+ for more information about this service!

One Just Isn’t Enough

Hello COMC Nation!  There’s just over a week to go before the official launch of the Vault, as well as the start of The National, and COMC is kicking things into high gear.  With the building excitement over our new service, we felt that just one announcement in the upcoming issues of Beckett wouldn’t be enough.

Here is a sneak peek of the ad that will be hitting the shelves in next month’s issues of Beckett:

The Vault - Coming Soon

The Vault – Coming Soon

We look forward to hearing your thoughts on this advertisement and are eagerly awaiting the chance to see as many of you as we can while we are at the National.  As a reminder, be sure to have your Vault Eligible items listed for sale by the 24th in order to have them taken to the show!  And as always, keep up with us on our FacebookTwitter, and Google+ pages.

New Vault Filters

With the official launch of The Vault service approaching, we’ve introduced some new tools to help you manage your Vault Eligible items.  There are now three new filters in your Inventory Manager to help you list your items on The Vault.

***If you want us to take your items with us to sell at The National that are currently on COMC.com, you need to mark them for rescan by TOMORROW, Wednesday, July 17th.  More details below.***

New Filters

From your Inventory Manager, select the Show Items dropdown.  You will see three new options: Vault Eligible, Vault Needing Attention, and Vault Candidates.

  • Vault Candidates: shows you a list of items in your inventory that qualify for the Vault. These items will have at least a $20 Beckett Book Value (or no BV due to scarcity) and a minimum $40 COMC asking price. With each Vault Candidate item, you’ll see an “Actions” button underneath your asking price where you can select the “Make Vault Eligible” option.  From there, choose the “COMC Services” option, then “Rescan for The Vault.”  At that point, your item will be assigned to receive a high-resolution 36x scan.
    • please note, there is a .50 cent fee to have your cards re-scanned at the higher 36x
  • Vault Eligible: displays items in your portfolio that qualify as Vault Candidates and have already been scanned at the 36x level.
  • Vault Needing Attention: shows items that are Vault Eligible but await a Vault-appropriate asking price. To enter your asking price, click “List on The Vault” and a popup screen with listing options will appear. You may also mark these items “Not for Sale on The Vault” from this popup.

Important Dates

  • Until September 30th listing cards on The Vault will be free.  This is an introductory special, so take advantage of it now!
  • Any items listed on The Vault by July 24th will be going to Chicago for display at the COMC booth at the National.
  • To ensure your Vault Candidates are made Vault Eligible by the 24th, they need to be submitted for a 36x rescan by Wednesday, July 17th.

Your cards could be on display and available for sale at the biggest card event in the country, but you need to act quickly to take advantage of this offering.  In the meantime, be sure to keep following us on our FacebookTwitter, and Google+ pages for more news and further updates.

The Road to The National

It is that time of year when the team at COMC packs their bags and heads to the largest card show in the nation: The National Sports Collectors Convention!  This particular year, we are packing some slightly heavier bags than normal thanks to your help in filling up The Vault.  However, we are also bringing along a few extra goodies as well.

Where to Find Us

This is our first time in the Corporate Area!  You will find us at booth 850 in between Panini and PSA.  You will have an opportunity to see Tim, Julia, Geoff, Steve, Jim, me, and other members of our Team.  After you have met us, we have a few surprises.

For the first time ever, we will be doing On-Site Processing at The National!  You heard us right: bring your cards to us while we are at the show, and we will process your cards right there at the convention.

How Onsite Processing at The National Works

If you have never consigned with us, we will process your first item for free while you wait!

Submit up to 200 cards at $0.50 per card to The Vault, and we will have the cards processed and on the site as soon as possible, for sure in One Day!

Submit any number of cards with our One Day, One Week, or One Month services.  Not only will we pay to ship your items back to Redmond for you, we will also start processing your items at the National so that your due dates will be based on when you drop off your items instead of when they get back to our office.

FREE – To Be Graded Submissions

If you would like any of your items graded by Beckett and than returned to your COMC account, you can drop them off with us, and we will put them in your COMC account within 24 hours for FREE.  Once they are in your account the only thing you will be able to do with them is to select a grading service.  The grading fees start at $12 for one month service.

These cards will be given out Thursday-Sunday at our booth, so be sure to swing by for your opportunity to collect them!

Blowout Raffles

Blowout will be hosting a raffle Thursday-Saturday at 3 pm, and COMC will be there.  Not only will you have a chance to win one of the unique Beckett Collectible Cards, but there will be 2 $20 COMC Gift Cards in the raffle each day as well!  Don’t miss your chance to have some fun with Tom Fish and earn a chance at some awesome prizes.

We Want to Meet You!

While we are at the National, Tim and the team are looking forward to speaking with many of our users face to face.  If you are at the National and would like an opportunity to sit down with Tim and chat, please email us with the subject line “Time With Tim” and let us know what days you will be at the National.  We will work with you to reserve 30 minutes of one-on-one time with Tim.

We are especially eager to hear from those of you that run group breaks or box breaks for your customers.  We are building some new innovative services that will help you save time and money.

Putting The Team in Gear

Well, there you have it folks.  Not only will we be showcasing hundreds of valuable cards from The Vault at this year’s show, but we will also be processing your items right there during the festivities!  So come by to say hello to the team, see some beautiful cards, and tell us your thoughts about the site in person.  We look forward to seeing many of you there as well as unveiling our newest service in front of one of the world’s most lively group of collectors.

Filling Up The Vault

This is the moment that many people have been waiting for.  Starting today, any seller who wants their items to be among the first to be displayed in the Vault and brought to the 34th National Sports Collectors Convention in Rosemont, Illinois may now make their items Vault-eligible.

The Vault – a quick summary:

  • Vault-eligible items can be for sale on COMC.com, on The Vault, or on both
  • 90% of the sale price of an item sold through the Vault will be given to the seller
  • The Vault will have no “cash-out” type fee
  • Storage fee starting at $0.01 per day (waived through the end of September)
  • Sellers can set minimum offers & auto-accept prices on each Vault card they offer individually
  • Cards from The Vault will be showcased live at shows such as the NSCC
  • To hear Tim talk about the service, check out Part 1 and Part 2 of the Vault Interview

Any items listed for sale on The Vault between now and Wednesday, July 24th will be showcased at our booth at the National Convention!  The first step will be making these items Vault-eligible.  There are three easy steps to make your item eligible for The Vault:

1)      Find your item, either in your Inventory Manager or by typing the item number into COMC’s search bar.

2)      In the ‘Actions’ dropdown menu, select ‘Make Vault Eligible’.

Part 1

3)      Graded items and COMC Reviewed items are both Vault-eligible already.  In addition we have added a new service under COMC Services which allows you to rescan an item with our new 36x zoom technology for only $0.50 which will also qualify an item to be Vault-eligible.

The $0.50 price is a limited time special available through the end of July to help celebrate our launch, so take advantage of it before it’s too late!

Part 2It’s that easy.  Shortly we’ll add a feature which will show users if their cards are already Vault-eligible (if an item currently Vault-eligible is submitted to this service the $0.50 charge will be refunded).  If a card is Vault-eligible you’ll soon have access to all the great Vault features.

Please note: Items listed on The Vault must have both an asking price of at least $40 and a high Beckett Book Value of at least $20 (unless they are not assigned a BV due to scarcity – “N/A” cards).

We’re very excited to roll out this service, as customers have been requesting it for a long time.  Vault eligible items will be able to be listed for sale on The Vault in mid-July, and any item listed for sale on The Vault by Wednesday, July 24th will travel with us to Illinois to be showcased at the nation’s biggest card show.

We look forward to displaying your cards at this prestigious show and hearing your thoughts about the Vault Service.  Be sure to take advantage of this limited time offer to have your items made Vault-eligible, and be sure to keep following us on  our FacebookTwitter, and new Google+ pages.

The Vault Goes To Print

As many of you can tell, the last few weeks at COMC have been very exciting.  Thanks to your continued support and suggestions, we are finally preparing to launch our newest service: The Vault.  We believe that this new service will over time become a major asset to the hobby, and we aim to provide it.

So our first order of business is to make sure as many people as possible know about The Vault.  To that end, I would like to present the ad that will be appearing in Beckett in the weeks leading up to The Nationals:

Traditionally, COMC has been the home of $1-100 items and we will continue to offer the same amazing service to that market.  Now, the time has arrived to help our buyers and sellers find a better, safer way to handle the online sale of the big ticket collectibles.  To get the word out, we would like to ask for your help.

Last week, we launched a Facebook contest to have you folks share our Apples To Oranges comparison.  Congratulations to Aaron Dragland who won that contest!  This was a smashing success and we have been contacted by many new users who were brought to us through your efforts.

So, let’s get the word out to even more folks this time around!  From June 13th until June 19th, we want to see how many shares we can get of this announcement.  Every user who shares this image on their Facebook page will be entered into a drawing.  The pot will be worth $5 + $.25 for each share this image has received!  The winner will be announced on June 20th on Facebook.

So tell us, what do you think of this ad?  Please leave your comments below and keep following us on the blog, FacebookTwitter, and our new Google+ page.  Don’t forget to Share us on Facebook for a chance to win the contest!

As a special bonus, as many of you know, tomorrow we will be releasing the first part of a two part video interview with Tim talking about the new Vault service.  There were so many questions that we wanted to answer, we decided we would split it into a section talking about general questions and a section about seller specific questions.  Here are a couple of photos from the filming as a sneak peek!
