COMC All Star MVP Contest

Hello COMC Nation! We’re coming up on the halfway point to the MLB season, and it’s just about time for the All-Star game. Sometimes we watch for the Home Run Derby the night before, or we like to check out the Futures All-Star game, or even the Softball game featuring the greats of seasons past.

There’s so much pre-game activity that fans can forget there’s a game to be played!  Well this year COMC has a game to play as well, and everyone is invited.

We’re going to have a little contest here during the MLB All-Star weekend, where anyone who follows @checkoutmycards on Twitter can join in the fun, and maybe win themselves some COMC Credit, too.

It’s really easy to join in the fun.

Just follow @checkoutmycards on Twitter. Then post the following phrase from your Twitter account:

“I’m a COMC All-Star and my MVP will win me $20! Check out how you can win! #COMCMVP

Everyone who tweets this phrase will be entered into the contest  and assigned a random All-Star. If your All-Star gets chosen as the game’s MVP, you’ll win $20 in COMC Credit. Remember to include the link *and* the #COMCMVP hashtag.

We’ll track all the tweets until 6pm (PDT) Monday, July 15th, and shortly after 6pm, we’ll post a list of those who are participating and the player that has been assigned to each contestant. On Wednesday, July 17th, we’ll contact the winners via Twitter DM and make arrangements to transfer their winnings to their COMC account.

Depending on the number of participants some All-Stars may be assigned to more than one person.  But, no worries…if an All-Star who is assigned to 2 or more contestants wins the MVP, each winner will get $20 of COMC Credit.  Splits are for bananas and bowling, not prize money.

So get ready by following the @CheckOutMyCards twitter feed if you don’t already!  Every day we’re posting cool trivia, athlete birthday announcements, and the latest in COMC news.

***Update – Deadline Extension***

To ensure as many people as possible can take part in our contest, we’re extending the entry deadline until Noon (PDT) on Tuesday, July 16th. Thanks to all those who have already tweeted the winning phrase and enjoy the All-Star game Tuesday night!

The Vault Goes To Print

As many of you can tell, the last few weeks at COMC have been very exciting.  Thanks to your continued support and suggestions, we are finally preparing to launch our newest service: The Vault.  We believe that this new service will over time become a major asset to the hobby, and we aim to provide it.

So our first order of business is to make sure as many people as possible know about The Vault.  To that end, I would like to present the ad that will be appearing in Beckett in the weeks leading up to The Nationals:

Traditionally, COMC has been the home of $1-100 items and we will continue to offer the same amazing service to that market.  Now, the time has arrived to help our buyers and sellers find a better, safer way to handle the online sale of the big ticket collectibles.  To get the word out, we would like to ask for your help.

Last week, we launched a Facebook contest to have you folks share our Apples To Oranges comparison.  Congratulations to Aaron Dragland who won that contest!  This was a smashing success and we have been contacted by many new users who were brought to us through your efforts.

So, let’s get the word out to even more folks this time around!  From June 13th until June 19th, we want to see how many shares we can get of this announcement.  Every user who shares this image on their Facebook page will be entered into a drawing.  The pot will be worth $5 + $.25 for each share this image has received!  The winner will be announced on June 20th on Facebook.

So tell us, what do you think of this ad?  Please leave your comments below and keep following us on the blog, FacebookTwitter, and our new Google+ page.  Don’t forget to Share us on Facebook for a chance to win the contest!

As a special bonus, as many of you know, tomorrow we will be releasing the first part of a two part video interview with Tim talking about the new Vault service.  There were so many questions that we wanted to answer, we decided we would split it into a section talking about general questions and a section about seller specific questions.  Here are a couple of photos from the filming as a sneak peek!

Apples to Oranges

It wasn’t long ago that we unveiled a new advertisement going into Beckett and other major subscriptions.  Today, we wanted to give you a sneak peek of an ad that will be hitting the shelves very soon and give you a chance to earn some store credit to boot!

Without further adieu, I give you our newest ad:

At COMC, we frequently have customers compare us to ebay, and we thought it would be nice to highlight some of the things you have told us, and maybe some of the things you might not know.  But the honest truth is, comparing us to Ebay is like comparing….well I think you get it.

From June 8th to June 12th, we will be running a contest on Facebook.  Every user who shares this image on their Facebook page will be entered into a drawing.  The pot will be worth $5 + $.25 for each share this image has received!  The winner will be announced on June 13th on Facebook.

So tell us, what do you think of this ad?  Please leave your comments below and keep following us on the blog, FacebookTwitter, and our new Google+ page.  Don’t forget to Share us on Facebook for a chance to win the contest!

Lastly, if you haven’t already heard about The Vault, check out our blog post and see how you have another option for your high end cards now as well.

Countdown to 10,000,000 Contest!

We’ve just gone blazing past item 9500000 in our database and we’re closing in fast on ten million items identified!  How can you get in on the excitement?  By participating in our contest, of course.  You can either successfully guess the day we upload the 10,000,000th item, or you can be the one to submit it for consignment.  Here are the rules: 10,000,000th Item Contest

Write a comment to this blog post BY DECEMBER 28th guessing the date that our 10,000,000th item is uploaded onto the site, what category it will be, and what brand.  You don’t have to guess the day it goes up for sale, just the day it gets deposited into the seller’s account.  Make sure to include your COMC username so you can be eligible for the prize!
“Categories” for the purposes of this contest are: Baseball, Football, Hockey, Basketball, Other Sports, Non-Sports, and Gaming

Account: “Jester”
Guess: January 6th, 2013; Non-Sports; Marvel
(this is probably a bad guess by the way, since we don’t usually deposit cards on a Sunday)

We’ll pick the winner by first seeing how many people had the correct date, and then using category and brand as subsequent tie-breakers.  If two or more people tie on all three picks, we’ll decide the winner randomly between them. One entry per household, and staff aren’t eligible (that wouldn’t really be fair since we’re the ones doing the uploading).

PRIZE: The winning guesser will receive $100 in COMC store credit!  What’s more, we’ll also discount the processing fee for the consignment batch with the 10,000,000th card by up to $100 (batches with a consignment fee of less than $100 will be refunded the full cost of their processing).

Fine print: Again, one entry per household (although the same person could conceivably win both halves of the contest by submitting the 10,000,000th card and successfully guessing the upload date).  To enter the guessing contest you need to post your guess as a comment to this blog post and not to any other post or to Facebook or Twitter.  Entries must be posted as comments to this blog post by no later than 11:59PM PST on Friday December 28th to be eligible and must include your COMC username.  The $100 processing discount for the batch with the 10,000,000th item is only awardable if you agree to sell us the card for reasonable market value.  These rules are subject to change if we realize we forgot something or if there’s some kind of loophole we missed.

Thanks, and good luck!
