COMC Office Pack Battle League Update #2

pack battle

Introduction

The COMC Office Pack Battle League is now four weeks into it’s inaugural season and trends are starting to take form. Of course, it’s still very early in the season, and no team is too far out of the hunt to be counted out.

If you’re not familiar with our scoring system or the rules of our league, you can read our introductory blog here. If you missed our first update and want to take a look at how things got underway through the first two weeks of the season click here.

A big congratulations to Sean Manaea for his 10-strikeout no hit performance against the Boston Red Sox in Week 4!

Current Standings

standingsweek2In the overall league standings through four weeks, Bob has emerged as the front-runner with 10 total points. Over the past two weeks, he’s secured 8 points and has leapfrogged the field after sitting in 17th place after the first two weeks of the season. The rest of the field remains tightly packed, with only three points separating 10th place from 1st place.

Home Run King Standings:

No clear leader has emerged in the Home Run King standings as a four-way tie exists at the top with Brandon, James, Bob and Tad each with five points. Bob took the ‘w’ in the HR category in week 3 with six home runs and Tad claimed top honors in week 4 with five homers.

Hit King Standings:

Despite adding no points from the hits category over the past two weeks, Kevin’s fast start with five points through the first two weeks was enough to keep him in the lead. The field is tightly closing in however as David sits in second with four points. Four teams tied with 13 hits each in week 3 to claim 1st place points while Jeff took the victory in hits in week 4 with a whopping 21 hits.

Strikeout King Standings:

Our five-way tie from the previous update has become just a two-way tie as Tim and Jeremy top the leader board with four points each. Dylan blazed past the competition in week 3 with 23 strike outs, while Bob followed up in week 4 with an 18-strikeout performance that was good for the top spot.

Week 3 Results (April 12th  – 18th )

week3

In week 3 action, Bob begun his march to the top of the leader board by scoring top points in the home run category with six home runs with his high risk high reward decision to play two Charlie Blackmon cards in the home run stat. A four-way tie at hits this week at 13 total hits yielded first place points distributed liberally. Dylan’s 23 strike outs from Gerrit Cole and Julio Teheran were enough to cement a strong first place finish.

HR Points:  Bob (3), Sean (2), Jeff (1), David (1), Kevin (1), Jade (1)
Hits Points: Jeremy (3), Geoff (3), Tim (3), David (3), Dieter (2), Angela (2), Tad (2), Chris (1)
K’s Points: Dylan (3), Brian (2), Jeremy (1)

Week 4 Results (April 19th – 25th )

week4

Bob followed up his three-point week 3 with a five point week 4 effort. Bob took first in Strikeouts with 18 K’s thanks to Gerrit Cole (is that name looking familiar yet?) and Sean Manaea and put up a second-place effort in hits coming just three hits short of the 21 hits acquired by category winner Jeff. Tad reigned supreme in the home run category with 5 on the bats of second-year studs Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger.

HR Points:  Tad (3), James (2), Brandon (2), Dylan (1), David (1), Sean (1), Jeff (1), Kevin (1)
Hits Points: Jeff (3), Bob (2), Sean (1)
K’s Points: Bob (3), Chris (2), Tim (1), Brian (1), Sean (1)

That will do it for this update. Our next update will come in two weeks where we’ll break down the week 5 & 6 action in the COMC Office Pack Battle League.

#Cardstock Volume 4 – Around the Diamond

#CardSTOCK is an ongoing series created by Baseball Cards Daily’s Chris Steuber that details the hobby value of baseball players based on their popularity and performance . You can check out all past editions of #CardSTOCK here.

We’re a few weeks into the season and players are just starting to find their in the grind that is a the 162 game major league season. Batting averages are still a little wonky, and ERA’s are all of the place, but the perennial all-stars are once again beginning to separate themselves  from the crowd. In Volume 4 of #Cardstock , Steuber goes around the infield diamond by highlighting a player at each position that are worthy of your investment.

BGS Grading Changes and Expedited Services Update

Hello COMC Nation!

Each Spring we announce updates and changes to the Beckett Grading Services offered through COMC. This year, we are bringing to you our fastest BGS turn-around time ever with our new 3-Week service. Additionally, we are making changes to our current 6-Week service level so we can continue to meet our customer’s expectations of accurate and guaranteed time frames.

Please note that regardless of service level chosen, all items submitted for grading through COMC are subject to the 1% declared value fee for insurance purposes. Items can be submitted for grading via the actions tab of the item that you want to submit to grading within your COMC inventory manager.

What’s Changing on April 25th, 2018:

New 3-Week Expedited BGS Service Level Added!

You asked and we listened! We all know that players can get hot in an instant and market value can change in the blink of an eye. Starting this week, COMC Members seeking grading services for their time-sensitive items can submit their items to our new 3-Week expedited BGS Service, our fastest turnaround time ever. We’re offering the 3-Week service at $40 per item, with autographed cards an additional $2 and oversized cards an additional $8.

Changes to our current 6-Week Service

In accordance with a BGS rate increase in 2018, COMC is also adjusting rates to reflect those changes. The base rate for our 6-Week service is now $21, with add-ons of $2 for autographs and $8 per oversized item. The guaranteed time frame for this service will remain unchanged.

The cut-off time to submit items under the old rate is April 24th, 2018 at 11:59pm.

We recently added item number 50,000,000 to our catalog, a monumental achievement for our team. The 50 millionth item cataloged just happens to be a card from the recently released 2017-18 Upper Deck Series 2 Hockey ePack set. The set went live on the ePack website yesterday to the delight of collectors!

How YOU can help us acquire item #50,000,000:

  1. Acquire 10 copies of card #376 Chris Kreider from the 2017-18 Upper Deck Series 2 Hockey set on the ePack website via opening packs of UD Series 2 Hockey or trading with other ePack users for the card.

COMC Office Pack Battle League Update #1

Introduction

Our case yielded a 1:93,600 packs mascot auto relic pulled by Tad.

Last month, we introduced our COMC Office Pack Battle League concept, structure and scoring system. If you’d like to revisit that blog to learn more about our league click here. Our league roster has been finalized with 20 teams in the hunt over the course of our 18-week season. Each week runs from Thursday through the following Wednesday, with each League Manager choosing 4 batters (2 for the hits category, 2 for the home runs category) and 2 pitchers for the strikeouts category using only cards found in their two packs opened for the week.

With two weeks in the books and each team opening just two packs a week to set their roster, our 20 teams has collectively opened just 2 boxes and 8 packs out of the 20-box case of 2018 Topps Opening Day that packs are being pulled from. Team Manager and COMC Processing Team Member Tad P. crushed the odds by hitting a 1:93,600 packs Billy the Marlin Mascot Autographed Relic card.

Current Standings

In the overall league standings, we currently have a three-way tie between Kevin, Grant and Brandon with seven total points each. Jeremy and James round out the top five each with five points, while 6th-12th place remain tightly bunched up in the season’s infancy. All twenty teams are on the board with points just two weeks into the season.

Home Run King Standings:

Brandon, Jade, Steve and James lead the home run leader boards each with three points in the category. James and Brandon tied for 1st place in week 1 each with six round trippers. Jade took top honors in week two with Mike Moustakas and J.D. Martinez each hitting two homers.

Hit King Standings:

Kevin has a firm lead on first place in the hits leader board with five points after winning the category in week one with 19 hits and following it up with a 2nd place finish in week 2 with 14 hits. Grant took top honors in week 2 with his 15-hit combination of Jose Altuve (6) and Kris Bryant (9).

Strikeout King Standing:

A five-way tie between Brandon, Tim, Grant, Jeremy and Jeff currently exists through the first two weeks of the season. The record for most strikeouts in a week currently belongs to Brandon’s week 2 combination of Yu Darvish and Corey Kluber who notched a combined 22 k’s.

Week 1 Results (March 29th – April 4th)

Excited to get underway, our Managers had their teams set and ready and go for Opening Day! In the home runs category, James and Brandon tied for top honors with six homers each, with Bryce Harper anchoring their respective teams. Kevin dominated the hits category with 19 hits (Paul Dejong 10 hits, Dee Gordon 9 hits). Grant, Jeremy and Jeff led the pack each with 17 strikeouts, enough to earn each team three-points.

HR Points: James (3), Brandon (3), Tad (2), Steve (1), David (1), Brian (1)
Hits Points: Kevin (3), James (2), Steve (1), Brandon (1)
K’s Points: Grant (3), Jeremy (3), Jeff (3), Kevin (2), Angela (2), Tim (1), David (1)

Week 2 Results (April 5th – 11th)

Jade squeaked out a win over a tightly packed field in the home runs stat with four on the week. A six-way tie for 2nd place at three home runs and seven more teams tying for 3rd with 2 home runs meant that 14 teams earned points in the HR category this week. Hit was a little more clear cut, with Grant’s 15 hits being enough to earn 1st place points, besting Kevin’s 14 hits and denying him back-to-back wins in the category. Brandon dominated the field with 22 strike outs, five more than 2nd place.

HR Points: Jade (3), Jeremy (2), Geoff (2), Dieter (2), Steve (2), Bryson (2), Bob (2), Grant (1), Chris (1), Dylan (1), Brian (1), Jeff (1), David (1), Tim (1)
Hits Points: Grant (3), Kevin (2), Dieter (1), David (1)
K’s Points: Brandon (3), Tim (2), Geoff (1), Sean (1)

We will publish weekly league updates every two weeks throughout the course of our 18-week season. Are you playing in a similar trading card inspired fantasy league, or did you get a major hit out of your rips of 2018 Topps Opening Day product? We want to hear about it! Share with us in the comments below!

#CardSTOCK Volume 3: Prized Prospects

#CardSTOCK is an ongoing series created by Baseball Cards Daily’s Chris Steuber that details the hobby value of baseball players based on their popularity and performance . This time around, Chris showcases seven prized prospects who have generated huge buzz within the hobby through phenomenal performance internationally, in the lower minor league levels, and in spring training. A couple of these prized prospects have already made a splash at the major league level, while others are waiting in the wings for their chance to shine on baseball’s grandest stage.

Prove Us Wrong and Win: Why The Vegas Golden Knights WILL win the Stanley Cup! (Contest)

(Update #4 (6/7/18) – The Vegas Golden Knights have been eliminated in the Stanley Cup Finals by the Washington Capitals. The winner of our contest is Cole Wolpert, who correctly picked the Caps over the Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup Finals. Impressive!

(Update #3 (5/21/18) –  The Vegas Golden Knights have advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals. Thank you to all those chose the Winnipeg Jets for playing! LET’S GO! #VegasBorn)

(Update #2 (5/7/18) – The Vegas Golden Knights have advanced from round 2. Thank you to all those who chose the San Jose Sharks for playing!)

(Update #1 (4/18/18) – The Vegas Golden Knights have advanced from round 1. Thanks to all those who chose the L.A. Kings for playing!)

We are making a BOLD prediction, COMC Nation! We’re drawing a line in the sand and proclaiming the Vegas Golden Knights as our pick to win the Stanley Cup in the 2017-18 NHL Playoffs! We can’t help but to show our support for the 1st year expansion team. We’re thrilled for the excitement that team has generated both with their rapidly growing Nevada-area local fan base, and worldwide among hockey enthusiasts. Their unlikely rise to convincingly win the Pacific Division of the Western Conference is one of the best sports stories of the year – and now we’re hoping that story continues and doesn’t end until it’s cemented in history.

Why are we so proudly behind the Vegas Golden Knights? Their success in the rink and growing support only acts as proof that there is growing demand for hockey not only across the United States, but around the globe. COMC is located just a short distance away from Seattle, WA, which has put a power play on the NHL and has demanded an expansion franchise of our own. Last month, Seattle fans put their money where their mouth is with 25,000 fans putting down deposits to be the first to purchase seasons tickets if and when Seattle is awarded an NHL franchise.

But enough grandstanding, it’s time for COMC to put our money where our mouth is! We’re willing to offer $25 COMC Store Credit to one lucky hockey Nostradamus who can correctly predict in the comments below which team can eliminate the Vegas Golden Knights from the NHL Playoffs.  Or, if you’re like us and believe the Golden Knights will reign victorious, show your support in the comments below for an chance to win once the Golden Knights win the Stanley Cup!

(Rules: One winner will be chosen at random either after the Golden Knights are eliminated from playoff contention, or when the Golden Knights win the NHL Stanley Cup. Only one entry per person. All entries must be submitted by April 15th at 12:00pm PST. Winner will be chosen at random if multiple correct answers are submitted. Must have a COMC account to claim prize)

The Faces Behind COMC #2 – Getting to Know Our Order Fulfillment Team

A few weeks ago we debuted our ‘Faces Behind COMC’ blog series, which offers a detailed and personal look at the individuals at COMC who are tasked with the day-to-day responsibilities of ensuring the satisfaction of every single COMC customer. The response that the first installment received was overwhelming positive, and our team truly appreciated the kind words! In our second look at the COMC Team, we turn focus to our Order Fulfillment Team. Tasked with processing a truly mind blowing amount of shipment requests on a weekly basis (we’ll save the raw statistics for another blog), putting cards in the hands of their owners is a collaborative effort by our Shipping Teams in three different COMC locations. In this blog, we’re focusing on members of our Auburn (WA) Order Fulfillment Team,

Alice Wolfe

Alice recently celebrated her sixth year anniversary with COMC as a member of our Shipping Team and currently serves as our Order Fulfillment Team Assistant Manager. Born and raised in Washington State, Alice collects Nintendo merchandise and is a competitive Super Smash Bros. video game player. At one time, she was considered one of the best Yoshi players in the world in Super Smash Bros. Melee competition.  Alice also collects and plays both the Pokemon Trading Card Game and Magic: The Gathering.

When not at COMC, she can be found raising a pair of bunnies (Nugget and Cocoa) with her partner-in-crime as well as reviewing older movies. One very fun fact about Alice that some of her co-workers might not even be aware of is that she even went to school to become a race car driver.

Favorite Sport: Rally Racing
Favorite Food: Ramen
Favorite Card in Personal Collection: Can’t Pick One.

Alicia Lortz

Having joined the COMC team in November of 2015, Alicia currently helps oversee order fulfillment production as one of our Team Shift Leads. Originally from San Diego and lived elsewhere around Southern California, she now shares a home with roommates, her significant other and their pet rabbits (of the Netherland Dwarf variety) near COMC.  Prior to moving to Washington to pursue a romantic relationship, she was a member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) for four years in high school where she competitively showed livestock.

In her time away from COMC, she enjoys cooking and gaming, amassing a collection of classic video game console and games as well as Pokemon and Nintendo merchandise. Her personal card collection includes a lot of older Pokemon cards and she shares a moderation collection of Magic: The Gathering cards with her girlfriend.

Favorite sport: Very casual Steelers fan. Haven’t followed much since Super Bowl XL.
Favorite players: Jerome Bettis, Hines Ward, Troy Polamalu
Favorite card in personal collection: Foil Inkmoth Nexus (MTG/Mirrordin Besieged) that I pulled from a booster pack that actually belonged to Alice. She let me keep it because I had been building a UG Infect Deck.

Andrew Baker

Andrew recently enjoyed his one-year anniversary at COMC as a member of our Order Fulfillment Team. Born in Eastern Washington, he is one of the more well-traveled members of our team, having previously lived in Eastern Nebraska and Northern California before returning to settle near COMC. Similar to many members of our Order Fulfillment Team, he is passionate about both playing and collecting the Magic: The Gathering cards.

In his free time, he is avid about spending times outdoors playing Pokemon Go. He also has a small collection of older video games and enjoys playing Super Smash Bros. Some of his hobbies include playing board games, hanging out with friends and getting plenty of sleep.

Favorite sport: Pool (Billiards)
Favorite players: Efren Reyes
Favorite Food: Pizza
Favorite Musical Artist(s): Most bands from the 80’s but I like Guns and Roses
Favorite Movie/TV Show/etc: Anime, Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Favorite card in personal collection: An unlimited Lightning Bolt that I’ve had since I started playing the game (Magic:The Gathering)

Nathan Hutchens

Joining our Order Fulfillment Team back in December of 2016, Nathan is our resident Japanese expert, having lived in Japan for four years prior to joining the company. When not at COMC, he enjoys a quiet life at home where he can be found with his drawing tablet partaking in digital painting as well as 3D modeling and animation. He maintains a collection of Japanese import video games and has a family dog named Aero.

Similar to other members of our Order Fulfillment Team, he has a small collection of older Pokemon and Magic: The Gathering trading cards and showcases superb mastery of the character Ganondorf in the video game Super Smash Bros.

Favorite Movie/TV Show/etc: Game of Thrones
Favorite card in personal collection: Charizard Base Set

Cody Hauk

Although some of his fellow co-workers believe he’s not human due to his incredible immune system, we can indeed confirm that Cody is very much human. His passion for his team and for COMC over his four years with the company has led him to the role of Assistant Manager of our Order Fulfillment Team. Born in Flint, Michigan, he spent time in Afghanistan prior to joining the COMC Team.

He has a betta fish and 3 papillon dogs in addition to a Shih-tzu back in Michigan.  Although he jokingly pondered, “What is life without COMC?” when we first inquired, Cody confessed that he enjoys video games, sports, ping pong and billiards when away from the office. Interestingly enough, he learned how to play ping pong while in Afghanistan.

Favorite sport(s): UFC, Boxing, Soccer, Tennis, Football.
Favorite player(s): Brian Urlacher, Ronaldinho Gaucho, Brock Lesnar, Barry Sanders.
Favorite Food: Mexican food.
