Come See COMC in May!

Just when you thought we were ready to take a break, when we were going to spend a weekend at home, just watching baseball and eating way too much junk food…think again! There’s way too much happening in May, and we’re going to rack up some more air miles attending some great shows around the country…or, should I say, around the continent?

The 43rd Sportcard and Memorabilia Expo – Toronto, ON – May 3rd to 5th
We say “continent” as COMC will be in Toronto for the Expo – Sam Kassam from our Canadian Office and our Shipping Supervisor Geoff Holland will be manning the booth all weekend, telling everyone about COMC and accepting submissions of up to 5,000 cards, so people can take advantage of our Canadian Spring Promotion.

White Plains Sports Card Show “Spring Fever Show” – White Plains, NY – May 3rd to 5th
That same weekend, Senior Account Manager Steve Hollander and Account Manager Nathan Richards will be in attendance, taking submissions of up to 1,000 cards per customer and talking with anyone and everyone.

Bonsor Sports Collectors Show – Burnaby, BC – May 26th
Sam Kassam will be in attendance and will be accepting submissions.

Our spring is looking incredible, and we’ll have more shows to check out, more news to share, and more great deals for buyers and sellers…keep checking our blog for more details as they come, and be sure to follow along at Twitter and Facebook!

Steve will be happy to say hello, answer your questions about COMC, and will be accepting submissions of cards to save you the cost of shipping them.  When bringing cards to consign, please remember:

  • To pack them neatly in boxes (no loose cards or binders)

COMC is on the road in April!

With all the exciting things that have been happening at COMC recently – the opening of our Canadian office, the launch of our new service for comics, and some other amazing projects we haven’t even announced yet – we thought it would be a good time for us to go out and spread the word to collectors face-to-face about all these new and wonderful ways to use COMC. It’s time to hit the road!

April is going to be a super busy month for COMC, as we’re attending four great events in April; it’ll be even busier as three of these events are happening on the same weekend! Talk about some intense logistics – our admin staff is going to earn some time off in May. But, never fear! We’re up to the challenge and we’re going to make it happen, in the classic COMC style.

Here’s a breakdown of the shows, and who you can count on meeting when you go:

Edmonton, AB – The Summit Collectibles Show IV – April 20-21
COMC CEO Tim Getsch and Julia Getsch our Director of Business Development will both be in Edmonton, ready and eager to tell you all about what we have in store for the COMC community in the weeks and months ahead. They’ll be accepting card submissions of 5,000 cards per customer all weekend long, giving everyone a chance to take advantage of Canadian Spring Promotion. There’s also going to be plenty of specials and giveaways for show attendees.

Vancouver, BC – Fan Expo – April 20-21
Sam Kassam from our Canadian office will be representing COMC at this star-packed show, one of the biggest comic/pop culture conventions on the West Coast. He’ll be meeting with collectors and anyone else interested to hear about our new comic service. He’ll also be accepting submissions (up to 5000 cards per customer) as part of the Canadian Spring Promotion, as well as answering any questions you may have about COMC.

San Francisco, CA – TRISTAR – April 19-21
COMC is pleased to announce that we will be attending TRISTAR’s Bay Area Classic show for the first time. Senior Account Manager Steve Hollander and Account Manager Norbert Strub will be in attendance, taking submissions of up to 5,000 cards per customer and talking with anyone and everyone.

Vancouver, BC – The Sportcard Collector Show – April 27-28
The second of back-to-back weekend shows in Vancouver will find Sam Kassam and our Shipping Supervisor Geoff Holland manning the booth, ready to discuss all things COMC with new and veteran users alike. And just like the other April shows, submissions of up to 5000 cards will be happily accepted from anyone looking to get their cards in as part of the Canadian Spring Promotion.

2013 has already proven to be an exciting year at COMC and it’s only April! We’re going to be attending more show in May, including The Spring Fever show in White Plains, NY, as well as the Sportcard and Memorabilia Expo in Toronto, ON. Watch for more details about those events as they get a bit closer.

Fasten your seatbelts for an exciting ride ahead – the rest of 2013 will include more events, more innovations to our website, and more ways to make collecting more rewarding and fun for everyone. Stay tuned to our blog, as well as Twitter and Facebook, for the latest news!

COMC Hot List for April 3 – April 17th

Hello friends! It’s a great time of year! Spring is in the air! Baseball season has started! Basketball and Hockey playoffs are just around the corner and the gang over at COMC.com is just starting to recover from their holiday chocolate hangovers.

And, it’s Wednesday. You know what that means! It’s time for the newest Hot List. As we’ve done before, we’re putting a special focus on the players, sets, and teams that we believe are Hot right now. We asked for your input, as well as checked in with the COMC processing team, and with that combined synergy we’ve put together a brand new COMC Hot List (listed in no particular order):

2013 Topps Gypsy Queen Baseball
Bryce Harper
Jackie Bradley, Jr.
2012 Panini Totally Certified Football – serial numbered cards only
2012/13 Panini Select Basketball
2012 Panini Playbook Football –  serial numbered cards only
Pittsburgh Penguins

And, we’re bringing back the Hot Theme: as the March college basketball Big Dance moves into April, we’re going to be accepting any cards of any player from the 4 remaining teams: Louisville, Michigan, Syracuse, and Wichita State…Shocking, right? This includes any current or alumni player, as long as they’re in their college uniforms!

Hot List Special = One Week -> One Day

Exciting news from COMC!

Everyone who’s been following COMC has noticed a number of changes over the years; we’ve grown in leaps and bounds, offering new and diverse services for our customers on a regular basis. Today we’re happy to announce that COMC is going in another new direction which is creating lots of excitement at COMC headquarters.

COMC is currently making plans to open it’s first “Brick and Mortar” store, as we move beyond the bounds of the internet and start setting up card and collectible shops in neighborhoods across the country and around the world.

Of course, an undertaking like this requires plenty of planning and development, and while something like this is a huge step, CEO Tim Getsch has decided that the company is going to start small. He’s already picked out where our first location will be, and (much to everyone’s surprise) it won’t be located near our main offices in Redmond, Washington. Tim has been scouting locations and determined our first store will be located in Antarctica.

When asked about the location, Tim says “It’s prime real estate and it’s selling so cheap, it’s a great opportunity for us to get in on the ground floor of this recently opened territory. We can get ourselves established and there’ll be plenty of room for us to grow and expand as our company needs.” While Tim concedes it may be difficult for some collectors to visit our new store in such a remote location, he’s confident that the local population will be supportive during the new store’s early days.

“Penguins are awesome!” Tim says “They’re natural collectors and they have an abundance of disposible income. I’m really looking forward to working with them, as I’ve always been a fan of penguins. When I was a child, I wanted one for a pet, but my parents said it couldn’t happen. When they said that, I took my brother to the zoo, to try and trade him in for a penguin. My folks got really upset when I did that, because they said he was worth 3 penguins and an otter, at least.”

Tim prepares to meet with the local population, to discuss COMC's expansion into the area.

There is a little hesitation among the staff, however. Said one employee, who asked to remain anonymous “It’s cool we’re getting a storefront, but no one wants to be chosen as a ‘day manager’ since the days can last up to 24 hours. I mean, how do you schedule breaks on that kind of shift?”

While some logistics are still being worked out, this is a huge development for COMC. Keep checking this blog for further updates and other penguin-related news.
