Here at COMC, our spring fancy has turned to Spring Cleaning. We need to make room in our warehouse for all of these great new 2013 cards that many of our sellers have been sending in, not to mention the new comic book program that we just launched. And we thought that since many of you might also like a spring refresh of your inventory or collection, this seems like the perfect time to offer a couple of seasonal promotions.

First up, for buyers – we’ll have many of our sellers offering some great limited-time Spring Cleaning specials. (More information on that below.)  So you’ll have plenty of great items to choose from, many at incredible sale prices. But in addition to that, we’ve decided to offer a Free Shipping special! And what do we have in store for sellers? Well, in addition to an influx of buyers looking for deals and enough cards to earn the Free Shipping special, we’re offering three weeks of free Spring Cleaning promotions where you can mark down all or part of your listed inventory and have it be featured in the COMC Promotions section at no charge. Just log in to your account and head into your Promotions Manager to select the details of the sale you’d like to run.

Each Spring Cleaning sale week runs from Sunday through Saturday, starting on March 10th. Just select how long you’d like your sale to run, and how much of a discount you’d like to offer. The discount will apply to your entire listed inventory, but you can still customize individual items with larger discounts or even no discount at all.

So there you have it – great COMC specials for buyers and sellers alike, running from March 10th through March 30th. We hope you’ll take advantage of them.

Starting today, each player, team, or set on the Hot List will qualify for our “Hot List Special” processing. With this service, you will receive One Day processing at the One Week price. That is $0.50 per raw trading card and $0.75 per graded, encased, or jumbo card.

* Clearly write “Hot List Special” on the outside of the package
* $5 minimum batch fee (We recommend submitting 10+ items.)
* 200 item maximum per week
* Must be post marked by February 6th, 2013

Cyber Monday – $10 COMC Gift Certificates and More!

It’s Cyber Monday!  There are five things that make this Cyber Monday great.

  1. 10 X the traffic = some site hiccups

Canada Update

As we previously announced, we are opening a warehouse in Canada!  This is one of the projects I have been working on since my arrival.  We assembled a great team and found an ideal space from which to launch.  Unfortunately, there have been a few more hoops than initially anticipated in order to secure the space for November.  Due to this and our current focus on Black Friday, we won’t be opening the new Canadian warehouse until December.  Nonetheless, we are still on track to process items received for the Canadian Pilot Special by December 31st.  We received a number of submissions at the Vancouver Fanfest and the Toronto Expo.  We are still receiving submissions for the Canadian Pilot Special – postmarked by December 1st.  You can send these submissions to our temporary PO Box:

New Advertising Campaign
CheckOutMyCards.com has grown almost exclusively by word of mouth and organic search results. We only purchased two Beckett ads in our first 5 years. Now we want to get the word out regarding our investment in the new COMC.com, so we recently inked a deal with Beckett to be listed in every single printed publication they have in the next year. This is more than 60 publications. We will have either a full page or a quarter page ad in every single one. All of the most popular publications (Baseball Monthly, Sports Card Monthly, and all of the yearly almanacs) will have full page ads.

We are pursuing many more advertising opportunities as well.  We want everyone to know that COMC is here to help with their collecting and consignment needs.

5th Anniversary Special
To celebrate five years of our innovative consignment service, we are offering a flat rate processing special.

Get whatever fits in a 550ct box processed in 5 weeks for only $55.
– Limit five 550ct boxes per household
– Do not alter the boxes or cram them full – no cards along the sides or lying on top
– Write your username and “5th Anniversary Special” on one end of each box
– Account must have enough funds to cover the $55 processing fee
– Drop off at booth #2440 at the National Sports Collectors Convention
– If mailed, it must be post marked between August 1st and Monday August 6th
– If Condition Notes are needed, those fees will be added to the $55 processing fee

The second box has extra cards stuffed in along the side and cards lying on top. This is not allowed. It it too easy for the cards to get damaged in transit when doing this.

Free boxes at the National
We’ll have free 550 ct boxes at booth #2440 to give away. You are welcome to use them for the special or for whatever you need.  We’ll have some other goodies to give away as well, so please swing by and say “hi”!

A Post With Only Good Things In It

Thanks for writing so many comments to our previous post letting us know your feedback.  We are really reading all of them, we’re listening, and we’re still having discussions about the best way to achieve our goals together.  On that note:

GOOD THING #1

2012 National Collectors Convention Processing Special
COMC has been around for 5 full years now, so we thought folks might appreciate this deal.
-Give us your cards in a 550 Count Box.  We’ll give you 5 Week processing, starting from the day we receive it at the show, for only $55.  Maximum of 5 Boxes per customer.
Don’t cram cards into boxes, please; if it’s so full we’ll worry about card damage we’ll ask you to take some cards out.  We’ll have a limited supply of boxes at the show to give out, or you can bring your own.
Please make sure your account is funded with store credit before dropping off.  If you’ve got more than five boxes of cards you’d like to hand off, you can also use One Month service at $0.25/card, $5 minimum, no batch fee (One Week, One Day, and all other services will not be available for items dropped off at the National).
The $55 flat rate is in place of what would have been the normal $0.20/card fee – it does not cover extra fees such as toploader removal charge, oversize/special size item charges (poker chips or coins for example), or condition notes.

This deal is available to you even if you aren’t attending the National. 
Not everyone can go to Baltimore.  Postmark your shipment of up to five 550 count boxes during the National week (August 1-5) and when we receive them we’ll get to work for $55 a box, 5 Week processing time.

On August 1st we’ll start accepting items for several new listing categories.  We’ll be starting slowly, and we’re looking for people who are interested in helping us build out these services.  A dedicated blog post will outline what items will be included in this test, and how to get involved.

Try before you buy.
There will be an opportunity for everyone to actually see and explore the new COMC site so folks can make fully informed decisions about whether they’re on board with it or not.  We don’t want to strong arm everyone into something they haven’t had a chance to check out for themselves.  Test it and then let us know how you feel.

GOOD THING # 6

COMC is more successful than ever.

We’re not all driving around the office on our own Segways or installing office slides, but things are going well.  We’re shipping more cards than ever, processing more cards than ever, and enjoying the most site traffic in our history.  Our last post broke the number-of-comments record, which means more people are passionate and involved than ever before, even if they don’t always see eye to eye with our vision.  We’re not afraid of criticism, and we actually appreciate it if it’s well thought out and constructive.  We are not content to sit back and rest on our success.  Our plan is to continue taking risks and pushing the boundaries of what COMC can be.
Five years ago at the National Convention in Cleveland, people said we were crazy for thinking that anyone would ever mail us their card collections.  We crossed the forty-employee mark this month.

Thanks to everyone who has been participating in this most recent conversation.  We’ve got a good idea of what we want to do and a lot of reasoning behind it, but there’s room for improvement in everything.  Keep involved and we’ll keep listening.

Magic 2013 Pre-Release Processing Special

In anticipation of the upcoming Pre-Release of Magic 2013, we’ve decided to run a processing special! If you give us 20 Magic: The Gathering cards – any 20 Magic cards (excluding basic lands) – we will process any one item using our 1-week service for FREE.  Mail the item(s) in to us in the same package as the Magic cards, but separated out.  We’re happy to accept any volume of Magic cards for donation, but the maximum amount of cards eligible for free processing will be 500 per customer (Which would be processed for free if you sent them with 10000 Magic cards you send us). The deadline for this promotion is July 31st, so make sure your submissions are postmarked by then!
Basically if you’ve got some extra Magic cards lying around, this deal gives you One-Week service for the price of postage.  About 1300 Magic cards will fit into a Medium flat-rate box from the Post Office, and they charge $11.35 to ship it.  1300 Magic cards donated will net you 65 cards processed with one week service for $11.35, then, which is the equivalent of $0.13/card (including our normal batch fee).  Not too shabby!  If you use the special to send us oversize cards, the deal gets even better.

To recap:

  • 20 Magic The Gathering Cards = Free 1-week processing for a single item
  • Basic Lands are NOT eligible for this promotion
  • Graded cards and special sized items ARE eligible for free processing with this Promotion
  • The maximum amount of cards eligible for free processing will be 500 per customer
  • Submissions must be postmarked no later than July 31st to be eligible

Please make sure (especially if you have any Magic cards you want processed using this special) to clearly mark and seperate which cards you wish to give us from those you wish to have processed. Thanks!
