Come See COMC in May!

Just when you thought we were ready to take a break, when we were going to spend a weekend at home, just watching baseball and eating way too much junk food…think again! There’s way too much happening in May, and we’re going to rack up some more air miles attending some great shows around the country…or, should I say, around the continent?

The 43rd Sportcard and Memorabilia Expo – Toronto, ON – May 3rd to 5th
We say “continent” as COMC will be in Toronto for the Expo – Sam Kassam from our Canadian Office and our Shipping Supervisor Geoff Holland will be manning the booth all weekend, telling everyone about COMC and accepting submissions of up to 5,000 cards, so people can take advantage of our Canadian Spring Promotion.

White Plains Sports Card Show “Spring Fever Show” – White Plains, NY – May 3rd to 5th
That same weekend, Senior Account Manager Steve Hollander and Account Manager Nathan Richards will be in attendance, taking submissions of up to 1,000 cards per customer and talking with anyone and everyone.

Bonsor Sports Collectors Show – Burnaby, BC – May 26th
Sam Kassam will be in attendance and will be accepting submissions.

Our spring is looking incredible, and we’ll have more shows to check out, more news to share, and more great deals for buyers and sellers…keep checking our blog for more details as they come, and be sure to follow along at Twitter and Facebook!

Scheduled Steve Hollander sighting!

Steve Hollander

Steve Hollander

If you’re on the Eastside of the Puget Sound this coming Saturday and would like to meet one of our representatives, Steve Hollander (known as SteveSC on the site) will be at the Twin Oaks show at Factoria Mall, in Bellevue WA, on April 6th.

Steve will be happy to say hello, answer your questions about COMC, and will be accepting submissions of cards to save you the cost of shipping them.  When bringing cards to consign, please remember:

  • To pack them neatly in boxes (no loose cards or binders)
  • Standard processing fees apply

COMC is on the road in April!

With all the exciting things that have been happening at COMC recently – the opening of our Canadian office, the launch of our new service for comics, and some other amazing projects we haven’t even announced yet – we thought it would be a good time for us to go out and spread the word to collectors face-to-face about all these new and wonderful ways to use COMC. It’s time to hit the road!

April is going to be a super busy month for COMC, as we’re attending four great events in April; it’ll be even busier as three of these events are happening on the same weekend! Talk about some intense logistics – our admin staff is going to earn some time off in May. But, never fear! We’re up to the challenge and we’re going to make it happen, in the classic COMC style.

Here’s a breakdown of the shows, and who you can count on meeting when you go:

Edmonton, AB – The Summit Collectibles Show IV – April 20-21
COMC CEO Tim Getsch and Julia Getsch our Director of Business Development will both be in Edmonton, ready and eager to tell you all about what we have in store for the COMC community in the weeks and months ahead. They’ll be accepting card submissions of 5,000 cards per customer all weekend long, giving everyone a chance to take advantage of Canadian Spring Promotion. There’s also going to be plenty of specials and giveaways for show attendees.

Vancouver, BC – Fan Expo – April 20-21
Sam Kassam from our Canadian office will be representing COMC at this star-packed show, one of the biggest comic/pop culture conventions on the West Coast. He’ll be meeting with collectors and anyone else interested to hear about our new comic service. He’ll also be accepting submissions (up to 5000 cards per customer) as part of the Canadian Spring Promotion, as well as answering any questions you may have about COMC.

San Francisco, CA – TRISTAR – April 19-21
COMC is pleased to announce that we will be attending TRISTAR’s Bay Area Classic show for the first time. Senior Account Manager Steve Hollander and Account Manager Norbert Strub will be in attendance, taking submissions of up to 5,000 cards per customer and talking with anyone and everyone.

Vancouver, BC – The Sportcard Collector Show – April 27-28
The second of back-to-back weekend shows in Vancouver will find Sam Kassam and our Shipping Supervisor Geoff Holland manning the booth, ready to discuss all things COMC with new and veteran users alike. And just like the other April shows, submissions of up to 5000 cards will be happily accepted from anyone looking to get their cards in as part of the Canadian Spring Promotion.

2013 has already proven to be an exciting year at COMC and it’s only April! We’re going to be attending more show in May, including The Spring Fever show in White Plains, NY, as well as the Sportcard and Memorabilia Expo in Toronto, ON. Watch for more details about those events as they get a bit closer.

Fasten your seatbelts for an exciting ride ahead – the rest of 2013 will include more events, more innovations to our website, and more ways to make collecting more rewarding and fun for everyone. Stay tuned to our blog, as well as Twitter and Facebook, for the latest news!

COMC at Las Vegas Industry Summit

Later this month COMC will proudly be present at this year’s Industry Summit in Las Vegas.  We’ll have our own booth in the corporate section, and you’ll be able to come meet Tim our CEO, Julia our Director of Business Development, Geoff who manages our shipping department, and Sam Kassam who is a key member of our new COMC Canada team.  We’ll be there from Sunday, March 17th through Wednesday, March 20th, and this year we will be accepting dropoffs for consignment!
Come see us, say hello, and save on your shipping fees by dropping off your items with us in person.  We’ll have free giveaways, first-time seller coupons, and a special show-exclusive bonus we’ll be announcing later.
Tim will be giving a presentation on Monday Morning during the Meet the Industry event.  He will be the third of three speakers, from 8:30 to 9:15AM.

Cedar Hills Crossing Card Show – Beaverton/Portland, OR

To all our friends in the Beaverton/Portland area, our own Steve Hollander will be representing COMC at the the card show being held at the Cedar Hills Crossing (formerly known as the Beaverton Mall).

Welcome to COMC Canada & Black Friday

Let the countdown begin! We are weeks away from a significant advance in the North American card collecting experience.

Over the next couple months we will be rolling out services that make it safe & easy to buy & sell items between the US and Canada. No more hassling with customs forms.

We are essentially creating a private shipping service between our Seattle area warehouse and our new Vancouver area warehouse. We will electronically file all the necessary paperwork to transfer items to and from Canada. No more worrying about items getting hung up at the border!

New Canadian Warehouse
Assuming things continue to go according to plan, we will announce the address of our new location in about 2 weeks. It will be in Burnaby, near Vancouver, and will be available for dropping off consignment submissions and picking up orders. Everyone in Canada wanting to consign items online will now be able to simply ship to our Canadian address instead of dealing with customs forms when shipping to the states.

Geoff HollandAccepting Submissions at the Toronto Expo!
November 9th-11th we will be at the Sportcard and Memorabilia Expo in Toronto. Come meet the head of our shipping department, Geoff Holland, and the two newest members of our Canadian team, Sam Kassam & Barry Mah.

To help get your items on the site in time for the promotions, we are offering a 2 Week processing service for only $0.25 per item. A Post With Only Good Things In It

Thanks for writing so many comments to our previous post letting us know your feedback.  We are really reading all of them, we’re listening, and we’re still having discussions about the best way to achieve our goals together.  On that note:

GOOD THING #1

2012 National Collectors Convention Processing Special
COMC has been around for 5 full years now, so we thought folks might appreciate this deal.
-Give us your cards in a 550 Count Box.  We’ll give you 5 Week processing, starting from the day we receive it at the show, for only $55.  Maximum of 5 Boxes per customer.
Don’t cram cards into boxes, please; if it’s so full we’ll worry about card damage we’ll ask you to take some cards out.  We’ll have a limited supply of boxes at the show to give out, or you can bring your own.
Please make sure your account is funded with store credit before dropping off.  If you’ve got more than five boxes of cards you’d like to hand off, you can also use One Month service at $0.25/card, $5 minimum, no batch fee (One Week, One Day, and all other services will not be available for items dropped off at the National).
The $55 flat rate is in place of what would have been the normal $0.20/card fee – it does not cover extra fees such as toploader removal charge, oversize/special size item charges (poker chips or coins for example), or condition notes.

GOOD THING #2

This deal is available to you even if you aren’t attending the National.
Not everyone can go to Baltimore.  Postmark your shipment of up to five 550 count boxes during the National week (August 1-5) and when we receive them we’ll get to work for $55 a box, 5 Week processing time.
Please clearly label the boxes “5th Anniversary Special” and write your username on the box
• Limit five 550 count boxes per household
• Any submitted cards exceeding five 550 count boxes will be processed as requested with our normal services
The $55 flat rate is in place of what would have been the normal $0.20/card fee – it does not cover extra fees such as toploader removal charge, oversize/special size item charges (poker chips or coins for example), or condition notes.

GOOD THING #3

Tim is available to talk with at the National.
If you’d like to sit down at booth #2440 with COMC’s CEO for half an hour of his time, send an email to timewithtim@comc.com and let us know what days you’ll be there and what hours will be best for you between 10am and 6pm.  We’ll email you back a reserved slot.

GOOD THING #4

We’re about to start beta testing our new item services.
On August 1st we’ll start accepting items for several new listing categories.  We’ll be starting slowly, and we’re looking for people who are interested in helping us build out these services.  A dedicated blog post will outline what items will be included in this test, and how to get involved.

GOOD THING #5

Try before you buy.
There will be an opportunity for everyone to actually see and explore the new COMC site so folks can make fully informed decisions about whether they’re on board with it or not.  We don’t want to strong arm everyone into something they haven’t had a chance to check out for themselves.  Test it and then let us know how you feel.

GOOD THING # 6

COMC is more successful than ever.

We’re not all driving around the office on our own Segways or installing office slides, but things are going well.  We’re shipping more cards than ever, processing more cards than ever, and enjoying the most site traffic in our history.  Our last post broke the number-of-comments record, which means more people are passionate and involved than ever before, even if they don’t always see eye to eye with our vision.  We’re not afraid of criticism, and we actually appreciate it if it’s well thought out and constructive.  We are not content to sit back and rest on our success.  Our plan is to continue taking risks and pushing the boundaries of what COMC can be.
Five years ago at the National Convention in Cleveland, people said we were crazy for thinking that anyone would ever mail us their card collections.  We crossed the forty-employee mark this month.

Thanks to everyone who has been participating in this most recent conversation.  We’ve got a good idea of what we want to do and a lot of reasoning behind it, but there’s room for improvement in everything.  Keep involved and we’ll keep listening.

Thanks,
COMC
