Catalog Update

Hello COMC Nation! We’re into the 2nd week since we began our transition to the new COMC and it’s been an interesting time around our offices. We’re busy working on our card catalog, but realized it’s been too long since we gave everyone an update on what’s been going on at COMC.com.

Progress
Right now we’re over 66% of the way through basic catalog creation for items currently listed on COMC. We expect to have 90% of the basic data complete in less than a month. Some of the data on the website is inaccurate, primarily player names, and we’re actively fixing descriptions while we create the catalog and process new submissions.

The best way to help us meet our goal of complete data by next month is by playing the Ultimate Card # Race. This Challenge provides us with card numbers which, above all other Challenges, speeds up our ability to identify items and create the new catalog.

Fast Track Your Inventory
We just introduced a feature that enables sellers to make items in their portfolio easier to find by potential buyers. If you have items for sale on the site, you’re now able to speed up their catalog creation by playing Challenges in the new Fast Track mode.

On the main Challenges page, check the box at the top of the screen that says “Fast Track My Inventory” to display items from your inventory first. Not only does it let you provide data on your items, it also bumps up the priority of Fast Tracked items you provided answers for to get asked to other contributors playing Challenges.

Please note there are some exceptions to Fast Track mode.  It’s not available for items in your inventory for which:

  • Data was already collected from that particular Challenge.
  • We don’t yet have enough data on an item to include it in that Challenge. For example, a card won’t get queued up in a Card # Challenge if we haven’t yet assigned it a prefix.

Processing Delays
Consignment processing has experienced slowdowns since the transition on April 1st. We are prioritizing catalog creation in order to process items so they can have complete data on the site. Premium processing should be back to normal next week and Basic processing will be running full speed sometime next month.

To help with the delays, we are still honoring our long-standing policy of applying a 50% discount on fees for late deposits when items are added to your account.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding. If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to call or email customer service.

Once again, we cannot sufficiently state our gratitude to you, our community, and advocates. Your response has been amazing, and we wouldn’t be here without you!  Thank you for completing Challenges, submitting suggestions, and participating in community dialog on our Blog, our Facebook page, and through Twitter.

The COMC Store Credit Giveaway at the 2014 Industry Summit

We’re less than a week away from our annual trip to Las Vegas!  As if you needed another reason to visit the COMC booth at the 2014 Industry Summit, how about we give you 250 reasons?

Hello, ladies...

Hello, ladies…

If you are interested in our Drop-Off/Pick-Up/Kiosk programs, come to our booth, watch our demo, drop off your business card (or just write your COMC username on a piece of paper), and you’ll be entered into a drawing for $250 of COMC Store Credit!

At 4 p.m. on both Monday and Tuesday (March 17 & 18), we’ll draw the name of a lucky winner from all the cards/usernames we’ve collected, and we’ll deposit $250 of store credit into that person’s COMC Account.

Did we mention you need to have a COMC account to get your prize? Well, you do – and you can sign up at our booth.

So be sure to drop by our booth while you’re at the Summit and say hello to Tim, Julia, Geoff, Steve, and Sam. And definitely remember to give us your business card (or your username) so you can get in on the winnings!

Industry Summit 2014 – Come See Us!

Hello COMC Nation!

Every March sees one of the most exciting times in the sports collectible hobby – no, not “March Madness” (even though that’s a lot of fun) – we’re talking about the Industry Summit!

We’ll be in Las Vegas from March 16th to 19th!  It will be four days where some of the biggest names in the sports card industry get together and discuss both the current state of the hobby and work together to determine its future.

We can't see our room from here, but we think it's pretty sweet.

We can’t see our room from here, but we think it’s pretty sweet.

Come See Us

Tim, Julia, Geoff, Steve, and Sam will be there!  You may even see us at the oyster bar in the Orleans Hotel.

Drop By Our Booth

Like last year, we’ll be taking submissions at our booth.  We’re accepting both Basic and Premium submissions.  The clock for Premium Submissions will begin ticking Thursday, 3/20 when we get back. By dropping cards with us, you’ll be able to save money on your shipping costs, as we’ll be transporting the cards back to Redmond for you.  Just a reminder, we ask that any submissions come without toploaders or cardsaver holders, and any screwdown or magnetic cases will be processed as Premium.  Make sure to prepare your submissions in advance of the Summit by using Submit Items on the Seller Menu on your dashboard.

Anyone with a store front who is interested in being one of our Drop-Off/Pick-Up/Kiosk Locations and drops off a business card will be entered into a raffle.

We’ll also have giveaways, so come see us!

New Drop-Off iPhone App

We’ll be demoing our new Drop-Off iPhone app!  This will make it easier than ever to submit your cards.

Hear From Tim Getsch, Founder & CEO

Tim will be giving a 15 minute talk the morning of Tuesday, March 18th (time TBD).

As in previous years, Tim will be available to chat with you. Just contact us at timewithtim@comc.com - we’ll set up as many appointments as time allows.

It’s going to be an amazing four days, and we hope to see you there!

Did someone say “Championship Parade”?

Hello COMC Nation – In his bid for the title of “Best Boss Ever”, Tim has made the announcement that any COMC employees who want to attend the Seattle Seahawks Championship parade would be able to do so – and, he’s even supplying bus passes for everyone, to help them get downtown. How cool is that?

Someone order this mug for Tim...stat! (Wait, does he even drink coffee?)

Someone order this mug for Tim…stat! (Wait, does he even drink coffee?)

With that in mind, we’re going to be a little short-staffed around the office on Wednesday. Our shipping crew is pushing to get more orders out Tuesday, and will be in early Wednesday (before the parade) to make sure we don’t fall behind in getting your orders out.

Also, Moe (Go 49ers!) will be running solo in the Customer Service department, as Norbert and Greg are heading downtown later tonight to secure their positions along the parade route. We wish them well, and hope they don’t freeze to the pavement overnight…in the meantime, any replies to your questions or concerns on Wednesday may be a little slower than usual.

Operations will return to normal at COMC on Thursday. However, our staff may never be the same.

COMC Hot List – taking a holiday break!

HI everyone! We’re very sorry for the lateness of this post, things have been hopping here at COMC as we’re gearing up for the last few days of the 2013 holiday season.

Making that list, and checking it twice…

We should have made this announcement yesterday, but the COMC Hot List is taking a break for the holidays; we have some folks taking time off to visit their families, making observances for the times, or just giving themselves a little break from all the high energy of these days.

With this in mind, we’re going to suspend the COMC Hot List until January 8th. When the holiday dust settles, and things return to something that resembles normal around here, we’ll be getting back into the swing of things and the Hot List will be making it’s way back.

Thanks for being a part of the madness and fun that is COMC. And, if we don’t get a chance to tell you later, we hope you all have a great and safe holiday season.

COMC Hot List: December 4th to December 18th

Hello COMC Nation! So, there’s all this talk about “Turkey-this” and “Something-Friday” and some dude named “Santa” sneaking down chimneys sometime in December? Really? Sounds a little dodgy to us, ya know? But, you know what’s totally legit? That’s right, the COMC Hot List! It’s that time, once again, where we let you know what cards we’re thinking are going to be big sellers and we give you the opportunity to get them on COMC.com as quickly as possible.

So, here it is…the COMC Hot List for December 4th to December 18th!

The Hot List Theme

Since one of the biggest American holidays of the year (Thanksgiving, in case you missed it…) just passed us by, we thought it would be fun if we made the theme somewhat holiday-related. So, we’re accepting any Topps Turkey cards, as part of the COMC Hot List.

So what does being on the Hot List mean?

COMC wants to encourage our users to get these hot cards into your accounts to offer for sale as quickly as possible, so starting today, any cards submitted for the Hot List will qualify for our “Hot List Special” processing. With this service, you will receive One Day processing at the special Hot List price: $0.50 per raw card and $1.00 per graded, encased, or jumbo card.

  • Clearly write “Hot List Special” on the outer mailing package and/or the address label.
  • $5 minimum batch fee (We recommend submitting 10+ items.)
  • 200 item maximum per week
  • Must be postmarked by December 18th, 2013
  • Can be mailed to either our US or Canadian office
  • Any submissions received on a Friday or Saturday may not be processed until the following Monday.
  • Submissions with non-Hot List items mixed in will be downgraded to One Week service.
  • Redemption cards may qualify for Hot List pricing, but will take up to a week to process.

You’re welcome to submit Hot List batches at the same time that you submit other batches with different service levels, even if they’re mailed in the same package, but please make sure that each batch is clearly separated and labeled, and that “Hot List Special” is written on the outside of the mailing package and/or mailing label. Failure to have the outside of the package properly marked may delay the time in which your cards are processed.

Thanks for your input for this new Hot List! Be sure to watch our FacebookTwitter, and Google+ pages for the next Hot List Call Out in a week!

And, for our friends outside the United States, please join us on our new COMC International Facebook page, and follow our new COMC International Twitter feed.

5 Black Friday Specials, Including a $500 Shopping Spree

It’s that time of year; there’s a chill in the air, the sun’s going down a lot sooner than it used to, and those jack-o-lanterns are sitting comfortably in the compost pile. (We hope so, otherwise “eeewwwww”…)

You know what else is coming up? Of course you do – the biggest holiday season of the year: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years…and Black Friday.  Two words that mark the beginning of the biggest shopping weekend of the year. And COMC is going to be right in the midst of it.

For weeks, people have been asking us about our Black Friday Specials. Trust me, we were wanting to tell you. But, we also wanted to wait until the time was right, and we’re pretty sure that time is now.

Here’s what we’ve got planned for Black Friday!

Free Shipping

It’s one of our most popular specials and we’re bringing it back for the Black Friday weekend. We’re offering free shipping on all cards that are bought between Friday, Nov 29th and Monday, Dec 2nd. Please note, to qualify for this special, there is minimum purchase of 20 items and they must be purchased in Simplified Buying Mode.

Note: Items purchase from Advanced Reselling Mode, items purchased by buying another seller’s entire port via a Port Sale, or items purchased from the old CheckOutMyCards website do not qualify for free shipping, but you can still get a $3 discount by shipping 20 or more items.  You can switch your buying mode in the Profile and Options page.

$5 Bonus Store Credit for Every $100 Purchased

All Black Friday weekend (Nov 29th – Dec 2nd) you will receive an extra $5 store credit for each $100 of store credit you purchase.  Limit of $50 bonus credit per day.  That is a total of $200 bonus credit if you purchase $1,000 store credit each of the 4 days of our Black Friday weekend.

$5 Bonus Store Credit for Every 50 Items Shipped

Last August, we introduced a Shipping Credit when purchasing items in bulk.  Normally you have to purchase 100 items in a calendar month in order to get the extra $5, but for the month of November, you get the $5 for every 50 items you purchase and have shipped by 11:59 PM PST Saturday November 30th.

And, as the Shipping Credit is deposited on the 1st of the month, any credit you earn in November you can use in December…just in time for Cyber Monday.

$5 – $500 Cyber Monday Shopping Sprees

100 COMC customers will win a Cyber Monday Shopping Spree.  One lucky customer will get a $500 shopping spree, and the rest of the winners will receive shopping sprees worth between $5 and $100.

Winners will be randomly selected based on the number of items that were purchased and shipped in 2013.  Items purchased and shipped on Black Friday or Saturday will receive 5 times the chances.

We will announce the winners on on our Facebook page on Sunday November 30th.  You will have all day Cyber Monday to spend your winnings.

Free Promotions

On top of all the promotions that we are giving away, we are encouraging all of our sellers to run their own Black Friday Promotions. Since we are not charging them anything extra to run the promotions, we expect to have more than 1,000 sellers running promotions on more than 5,000,000 items. This means there will be lots of great deals happening across COMC.com – sellers will be able to customize their markdowns up to 80% off their original asking price.

There you have it. We have a little something for everyone, and you won’t even have to get out of bed to do your shopping…does it get much better than that?

As always, be sure to keep up with all the news and company updates by following us on our Blog, Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube pages.

The Hot List Theme

Since this is the week many of MLB’s award winners are being announced, we thought they’d make an excellent theme. Cards belonging to the Rookie Of the Year winners (Wil Myers and Jose Fernandez), the Cy Young Award Winners (Max Scherzer and Clayton Kershaw) and the League MVPs (Miguel Cabrera and Andrew McCutchen) are all Hot List Eligible.

So what does being on the Hot List mean?

With this service, you will receive One Day processing at the special Hot List price: $0.50 per raw card and $1.00 per graded, encased, or jumbo card.

The New COMC Bulk Price Editor

During the days of the original CheckOutMyCards.com website, Tim introduced the Bulk Price Editor – a tool that made pricing cards quick and easy for those who had submitted large quantities of items for consignment.

When we moved to COMC.com, we had to discontinue the availability of the Bulk Price Editor, as the technology of the new website was incompatible with the way the Bulk Price Editor was created.  We knew it was a popular tool, so it was always our intention to create a new Bulk Price Editor, one that was compatible with COMC.com.

After a lot of work and effort on Tim’s part, we’re able to announce that the *new* Bulk Price Editor is available as a Beta download.

Please note that using the Bulk Price Editor takes up bandwidth on the COMC servers, so we ask that sellers limit their usage to adjusting their prices on a monthly basis. We want to keep the Bulk Price Editor as a free service, so we ask everyone to be kind and not overuse it.

Bulk Price Editor DOWNLOAD (login required)

System Requirements:

- Windows XP or later

- Microsoft Office Access 2007 or the Access 2007 Runtime (Free Download)

How to Install:

- If you don’t have Access 2007 or are not sure if you do, download and install the Access 2007 Runtime from Microsoft. (If you download the Bulk Price Editor without Access 2007 Runtime, you’ll get a message telling you to download and run the Access 2007 Runtime first.)

- Download and install the Bulk Price Editor (login required).

How to Use:

- From the start menu or the desktop, click on the Bulk Price Editor shortcut.

bulkstart

- This will bring up the Sign In page on COMC.com.

- After you sign in, the Bulk Price Editor will start downloading the items from your inventory.bulkload

- When this is done, you can search through your inventory for groups of cards that you would like to perform bulk operations upon.

bulkhome

- Once you have selected the group of items you would like to perform a bulk price change to, you can select the type of bulk operation to perform.

bulkpercent

- When this is complete, you can review the pending price changes.
- You can click in the green cells to manually edit any of the pending price changes.
- Finally, you can submit your price changes to COMC.com.

Thanks for your patience as we worked to bring back the Bulk Price Editor. Again, we request that users limit their price changes to about once per month – this will not overtax the servers and will allow us to continue to offer the feature for free. Please use the comments section below to let us know how it works for you, if you have any difficulties in the process of loading or running the Bulk Price Editor, and feel free to share any ideas or thoughts you may have.
